Dr. McLaren is a passionate engineering leader with over 30 years of experience in research, innovation, design and development in the digital media industry. His experience spans technology start-ups and fortune 500 companies and has involved leading hardware and software engineering teams through the implementation of cutting edge technological solutions in the consumer electronics space. He has led engineering organizations through numerous IPOs and company acquisitions.

After studying in New Zealand, Australia and the United States, Dr. McLaren first worked in the video space as a Software Engineer building MPEG encoders for Thomson Consumer Electronics in California. That position evolved from an R&D Engineer to a Technical Lead position and then a Technical Program Management role. After Thomson Consumer Electronics initiated a joint venture with Sun Microsystems operating as OpenTV (an interactive television middleware company), Dr. Mclaren’s position moved through various management roles and ultimately to Vice President of Engineering. By that time, the company had executed an IPO. A company move kept Dr. McLaren in the video space as VP of Engineering at Pure Digital Technologies (makers of the Flip video camera). After the company was acquired by Cisco, he ran an engineering team at Linksys before moving to GoPro to run Engineering Development as VP of Engineering. After another company IPO at GoPro, Dr. McLaren took on a Senior Vice President of Engineering role at Liquid Robotics – which was subsequently acquired by Boeing.

 Dr. McLaren recently moved to New Zealand and, after a brief attempt at retirement, ultimately taking on the role of Head of Engineering for the Video Technology arm of Resideo.
