Born in Rio de Janeiro, Marilson B. Campos graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Rio de Janeiro University in 1993. He began his career at an AI startup that developed expert systems for the financial industry. Later, he founded a startup that created expert systems and hypertext compilers for AI projects. That experience led him to secure a contract to build Cade’s indexing and search infrastructure. Cade became the largest search engine in Latin America, eventually attracting the attention of Yahoo! that acquired it for $160 million.
Marilson moved to Silicon Valley in 1998 and worked as a CTO/VP for several startups, including Sympro, which was later acquired by JPMorgan Chase. In that role, he managed teams in the United States and Brazil. As GlobalEnglish’s Director of Engineering and QA, he managed distributed teams in the United States, Korea, and India.
For the past 15 years, Marilson has specialized in Big Data and Machine Learning design, leading projects at RocketFuel, Zoosk, Glassdoor, Apixio, and Samsung Research America. To complement his practical experience, he attended Harvard’s Executive MBA (PLDA) program and earned a graduate certificate in Machine Learning from Stanford University. Currently, Marilson works as a Senior Staff ML Engineer at the Video Intelligence Lab at Samsung Research America.
