Mike Moody has a 40+ year career in Computer Science. Starting with an internship at age 19, he worked at NASA Ames simulating Martian Geology in wind tunnels. He then worked in computer graphics for high-end flight simulators, including the Space Shuttle, the 747, and the F111 at Singer Link in the 1970s. There, he earned a Masters in Applied Math at Santa Clara University.
What followed were management stints at Calma, GE Silicon Systems, and Wyse Technology where he ran the Graphics Engineering division and then the Operating Systems division for one of the first Intel multiprocessor systems. Subsequently, he worked as Director of Engineering at Auspex systems where he managed a major network attached storage product release. After that, he served as Director and then Vice President of Core Engineering at Portal Systems. There he launched some of the world’s largest ISPs for France Telecom, Deutsche Telecom, and Microsoft’s OneBill. That resulted in a successful IPO. What followed was a multi-year open source effort as Senior Vice President at Jaspersoft (turnaround), which was acquired by Tibco.
Currently, Mike provides part-time consulting to startup CEOs and mentors CTOs and VPEs. He was a member and eventually leader of the VPE/CTO Community of Practice, created by Stephen McHenry, that published the first edition of this book.
